Fiber innovation: Upcycling orange peel

Imagination meets innovation in our partnership with award-winning Italian company Orange Fiber. Together we produced the first limited edition TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers made from the combined pulp of wood and citrus fruits. The future of fashion relies on this level of innovation, as well as the eco-credentials of production processes needed to deliver them at scale.

Novelty factor sends serious message

The TENCEL™ branded limited edition lyocell fiber inspires both the fashion industry and fashion lovers by showcasing the true potential of sustainably produced products. The creation and marketing of specialist fibers also delivers a clear and important message to consumers to shop responsibly and buy fabrics that contain biodegradable fibers.
“With consumers becoming more eco-conscious, it is imperative for the industry to evolve and innovate together. This virtuous synergy represents a fundamental step in our journey towards sustainable fabric production from renewable sources, and also enables us to increase our production capacity to satisfy the needs of fashion brands,” said Enrica Arena, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Fiber. “This pioneering model can help revolutionize the fashion industry and empower brands looking for eco-responsible textile value chains. Collaborations like these really can bring about ground-breaking change.”

Securing a fruitful future for fashion

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers already boast a closed loop production process that has been widely publicized, but when the limited edition blended fibers were launched in October 2021, their market appeal to eco-conscious consumers increased even further. All garments manufactured using this fiber have special edition co-branded swing tags that detail the product’s unique journey, which also addresses the growing demand from retailers and consumers for greater supply chain transparency.
We hope that our partnership inspires others to explore what is possible through new technologies. Collaborating with Orange Fiber extends our influence in encouraging and promoting sustainable design and production values. We cannot afford to view fellow innovators and market leaders only as our competitors; we must engage with them as collaborators who share our mission to change the face of ‘fast fashion’ for good.
